Girl on Bike-San Francisco

Recently my dear friend and partner in art, Nancy Lloyd, and I attended an art workshop in Monterey, California. We tacked a few extra days onto our journey and stopped in San Francisco for an exhilerating visit with Nancy's son, Jimmy and daughter, Lauren.  The two young Lloyds walk everywhere and so we did, taking in all the sites, smells and sounds of the city!

San Francisco is a city of bicycles and Lauren watched my back as I stopped in mid-street to take photos of bicycles.  My best photograph, as well as my favorite, was one of an incredibly lovely lady who parked her bicycle in front of a coffee shop.  The bike was cadmium yellow and that started my heart to pound.  As I snapped photos, this lovely lady, without regard for me, continued to dig in her backpack for a lock to attach her bike to a meter.

Once home, I downloaded the photo and knew I'd paint it!  I sent the photo to my new friend, Thomas Fuller, blogger of Love Your Bicycle, and taking his comments to heart, actually changed the tilt of the lovely lady's head in my painting.  While attempting to name the painting, I researched organizations surrounding bicycles in San Francisco and landed upon one entitled Girls On Bikes.  The group promotes a clothing line to encourage women to ride bikes.  Hence the name of the painting: Girl On Bike-San Francisco.

Thomas did some research, too, on music and the perfect song accompanies my photo on his blog: "If You're Going To San Francisco"!  Hope you'll take a moment to enjoy Thomas' blog and that you enjoy my photograph and painting.
